Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series is Ready to Return to Peterborough Speedway

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

Keeping fans entertained and on the edge of their seats are the goals of every home track racing division and travelling series. Throughout the years, drivers and teams of the Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series have kept the crowds at Peterborough Speedway talking long after the checkered flag has waved. After the tour’s last stop at the venue known as Canada’s Toughest 3rd Mile produced a finish that went down to the wire, supporters have been counting the days ‘til the Saturday, July 24th return visit of the popular road show.

“We have some good numbers to draw from and if luck is on your side, just about anyone in the field can find their way to the winner’s circle,” said Ontario Legends Series official and spokesperson Jeff Drimmie. “Everyone works hard to get their equipment ready for action and its all about putting on a great show for the fans.”

Drimmie says the Ontario Legends Series teams are excited about being back on the track and always look forward to the events at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road. Especially after the outcome of the July 10th show, fans are pumped about the tour’s return this weekend as well. After being denied regular access to their favourite sport because of the pandemic, it’s the edge of your seat thrill ride that supporters have been craving. Fans can order advance tickets for the Peterborough Speedway dates by using the track’s online platform www.eventsprout.com/events/peterborough-speedway-2000-ltd.

Matt Haufe Returns to Victory Lane at Peterborough Speedway

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

2020’s abbreviated schedule was tough on racers everywhere, but Matt Haufe felt its wrath worse than most. The Stittsville, Ontario speedster took to the track on less than a handful of occasions. With the Canada/U.S. border locked-down because of COVID-19, his starts were limited to the shows he could run on his native soil. Saturday, July 10th, Haufe made-up for any disappointment he might have experienced last year by taking the Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series win at Peterborough Speedway.

Taking the green flag from inside of the 3rd row, Haufe would need to battle the rest of the field – including his Canadian Legend Cars teammates Kevin Foisy and Parker Traves – to score the win in the season opener at Canada’s Toughest 3rd Mile.

Foisy and Paul Pierik brought the pack to the line for the 25-lap headline dance and from the early stages, it appeared that everyone had brought their ‘A’ game to the lid-lifter at the Central Ontario speed plant. Haufe and Nicholas Ledson – a pair of former championship titleholders – would wage a torrid battle for the checkered flag and with only a single yellow flag – for a spin on the front stretch near the halfway mark – the duo would settle the issue in race traffic.

Ledson would claim the lead with a lap 18 pass in the 3rd turn, only to see Haufe’s potent No. 7 piece take it back with around a handful of laps remaining in the tilt. Ledson would get close in the closing stages, but close was as close as he’d come. Matt Haufe held-off the late race challenge to score his first win of 2021. Traves, Foisy and Pierik would complete the top 5.

Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series race notes: Matt Haufe and Nick Ledson each picked-up a pair of qualifying heat wins…Ledson was wheeling the first house car from JDC Motorsports…It was tough night for Hudson Nagy, who lost an engine during one of the heat races. Chris Massey had nowhere to go and slid the oil left behind and made contact with the turn 2 wall. Neither driver was hurt, but both were finished for the night…The Ontario Legends Series will return to Peterborough Speedway Saturday, July 24th.

Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series finish: Matt Haufe, Nicholas Ledson, Parker Traves, Kevin Foisy, Paul Pierik, Mark Griffin, Dawson Drimmie, Jeff Forsey, Robin Jongen, Nick Portt, Andrew Massey, Josh Inglis, Brandon Feeney, Jeremy Coulter, Glenn Morris. Hudson Nagy, Chris Massey (DNS)

Matt Haufe Stays Hot With Another Peterborough Speedway Victory

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

Some racers find they have a special feel for certain tracks on the circuit.  Over the years, Matt Haufe has found that Peterborough Speedway fits perfectly in his racing wheelhouse. Saturday, August 14tthe Stittsville, Ontario speedster picked-up his latest Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series win at the venue known as Canada’s Toughest

3rd Mile Oval.

Taking the green flag from outside the 3rd row, Haufe wasted little time in joining his Canadian Legend Car  teammates Kevin Foisy and Parker Traves in their pursuit of early race leader Nicholas Ledson. It was almost like the trio was locked together as they hunted-down the car at the front of the field.

Shortly after the pace was slowed for a pair of quick yellow flags, Haufe had moved into the runner-up and began a battle for the lead with Ledson that reminded fans of their checkered flag fight during the 2021 season kick-off at Peterborough. After another caution period for an incident in the 3rd turn, Haufe took control of the field.

The pair would swap the position back forth during the closing stages of the 25-lap affair, but not even a late race yellow with just a handful of laps remaining could deny Matt Haufe another trip to Peterborough Speedway’s

victory lane. Foisy and Traves followed the No. 7 car across the line. Ledson and Adam Cuthbertson completed the top 5.

28tand 29th for the Canadian Legend Car Asphalt Nationals.
